“Guilty Gear STRIVE” is an upcoming game in the “Guilty Gear” series, which was announced on Evo 2019. This will be the seventh mainline product, and overall it will be its twenty-fourth version. Apart from Ishiwatari Daisuke’s point that it will be “a brand new guilty equipment”, little is known about the game.
The game is expected to be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam sometime in early 2021, and the arcade version will be released through Sega Interactive’s ALL.Net P-ras MULTI version 3.
Guilty Gear STRIVE : Starting from ArcREVO 2019, the game was emphasized as a work in progress, and in the end, there was nothing to retain the traditional button layout, but Dash was added. It allows players to sprint with RightRight or Right + Dash. Tensiometer, impeccable defense, throw (right + dust), modified Roman cancellation (punch + kick + slash) and burst (dust + heavy slash) still exist. However, the throw will miss the range like other attacks, instead of making a regular attack.
Gatling’s system has also changed: weak attacks are no longer generally eliminated as heavy attacks; instead, they are combined into command normal or special actions.
Dust attack (Dust), although still retains its overhead function, but has also been slightly revised. The “side launch” follow-up function has been deleted, and the “air launch” follow-up is only available after a counterattack.
Performing this operation in the middle of the combination will only lead to the elimination of the opponent. When Sweep (Down + Dust) is working normally in the middle of the synthesizer, it will now “bounce” the opponent during a counter-attack, and then you can make combos. However, after the rebound, if it misses, the opponent will be knocked down.
It will drop Xrd Blitz Shield / Attack and Danger Time mechanics, as well as Dead Angles Attacks from the series. The recovery action has been changed, only actions with “sweeping” attributes (such as “crouching dust”) will cause a knockdown; otherwise, the character will be invincible as soon as it touches the ground.
The R.I.S.C. meter did return and it worked as usual. The combo seems to be relatively short, but the counterattack increases the damage and stun of the attack and fills the opponent’s R.I.S.C. meter may turn the game into a game that requires longer combos. There is chip damage, but the character cannot be killed.
A new kind of mechanic is the wall sticker hit state. When the characters are knocked down at the corner, they will stick to the wall, slowly slide down and fall to the ground. Players can continue to attack or destroy the wall to switch between phases and end the combo.
Doing so can greatly increase the degree of tension or damage, and can weigh the beneficial status of a particular role. Regarding effects, many types of vertigo and dislocations have been removed, but new states (such as “shocked”) may be caused by special movements or stage transitions, and subtly affect the performance of the character.
Arc System Works CEO Minoru Kidooka announced that the product will be developed on Evo 2018. The core concept of -STRIVE- is neither evolution nor rebirth, but “a complete reconstruction of franchise rights.”
Our goal is to create a game that both novice and existing players want, and to carry out “fighting game type substantial overall confrontation” and “high-risk action”. The purpose is to make input simple. They did not reduce the depth of the game.
At the TGS 2019 conference, general manager Daisuke Ishiwatari and director Akira Katano stated that as a new title, no part of the previous entries has been reused, and all the characters of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 have not returned. Hoping to make full use of 3D and freely move the camera to obtain dynamic angles, the Red Team must reconsider the way the model is created, and the Xrd model can only be viewed from a specific angle.
In addition, the team has many new members. This is because those with proprietary technology have transferred to “Grange Ranch Fantasy: Battle” and “Dragon Ball Fighter Z” to spread their knowledge of “anime appearance” technology.
On November 3, 2019, Daisuke confirmed in the ArcLive broadcast that the game will have English dubbing. This is the third English dubbing since Guilty Gear 2: Overture and Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-. Two days later, the song “Smell of Games” was released for promotion.
Arc System Works announced that -STRIVE- will have a closed beta and confirmed that the game will have rollback network code when it is released.
The official announcement regarding the release date of -STRIVE- has been postponed to 2021.
On May 15, 2020, producer Takashi Yamanaka issued an official statement on the release date of -STRIVE-. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic affecting development has caused delays in all aspects. Therefore, the release date of -STRIVE- was postponed to early 2021 to ensure the quality of the game.
