“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2021” is an upcoming American superhero movie adapted from the Marvel Comics character Shang-Chi. It was produced by Marvel Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It was originally scheduled to be the 25th film of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton in David Callaham’s screenplay and is played by Simu Liu as Shang Zhi and alongside Tony Leung.
Since 2001, he has been making a film based on “Shang-Chi”, but it was not until 2018 that the film began to work seriously with Callaham’s appointment. Cretton joined in early 2019 and the project quickly developed into Marvel’s first Asian film.
The name of the movie and the list of main actors were announced in July, revealing the connection between the movie and the Mandarin (Liang) that appeared in the MCU and its “Ten Rings Organization”. Filming started in February 2020, but was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed at the end of July to early August 2020, and then completed in October. The shooting took place in Australia and San Francisco.
Shang-Chi and “Legend of the Ten Rings” are scheduled to be released in the United States on July 9, 2021, as part of the fourth phase of the MCU.
The main photography started in February 2020 and was taken at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia and various parts of New South Wales. Bill Pope is the photographer of the film. Clayton chose the Pope because he believes that the photographer’s style can be both naturalistic and improved, and because of the work done by the Pope in The Matrix (1999), Clayton believes that this is a The right tone of the MCU movie with Asian and Asian American characters.
After the studio stopped production of the film on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cretton decided to test his own coronavirus after working closely with people who might have been exposed to the virus. This is a precaution because Cretton has a newborn baby and he isolates himself while waiting for these results. Later the test returned negative. When Cretton was in self-isolation, Marvel temporarily suspended the production of the first film of the film, but planned to use it for the second film and other films as usual.
