Ten years before the film’s release, Jo Sung-hee began to write a story after a friend discussed with him about the danger of space junk. “It started with the idea of space travellers collecting space junk. [He] heard about how these fast-moving debris pieces grew and caused space collisions [and] realized that this topic has been solved in the animation. And the game, but There has never been a movie. [He] started to write a script, wondering how the Koreans with strong minds would solve this problem.”
In May 2019, Chinese multinational entertainment company Huayi Tencent invested US$4.2 million in this film. The visual effects company Dexter Studios was hired to produce “Space Sweepers” and produced action movies and “Gods: The Two Worlds and Ashfall.”
