“The Last Duel 2021” is an upcoming American and British historical drama, adapted from the book “The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France” by Eric Jager. The script is directed by Ridley Scott and written by Nicole Holofcener, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. Damon plays Jean de Carrouges, a 14th-century knight. After his wife (Jodie Comer) accused Le Gris of raping her, he launched a duel with his attendant Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver). Affleck, Harriet Walter, Nathaniel Parker, Sam Hazeldine, Michael McElhatton, and Alex Lawther also starred in the film.
The adapted version of Jager’s Book was first announced in 2015, but it was not officially approved until July 2019. Affleck and Damon were confirmed as stars and co-authors that month, Comer and Driver joined the cast in the fall of that year. Filming took place in France and Ireland from February to October 2020 and was interrupted for several months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021. The film is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Studios on October 15, 2021.
In France in the 14th century, Marguerite de Thibouville claimed that she was raped by her husband’s best friend. Her husband, the knight Jean de Carrouges, challenged his friend and attendant Jacques Le Gris and was judged in battle. This is the last legally recognized duel in French history.
The project was originally announced in July 2015, Francis Lawrence planned to direct the film, and Shaun Grant was in charge of the screenwriter; however, no further development was announced and the film copyright eventually lapsed. In July 2019, Deadline Hollywood announced that Ridley Scott planned to direct the film starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and write the script with Nicole Holofcener.
Due to the merger of Disney and Fox, Walt Disney Studios owns the rights to the film, so it is not known whether the company will produce the film based on the subject matter; however, Deadline Hollywood added that if Disney sells the rights, ” Every studio is waiting”. In September, Jodie Comer began negotiating to join the cast, and it was confirmed the following month that Adam Driver started negotiating to join the film after Affleck chose to play a different supporting role. The driver was confirmed in November, and Disney said it would release the movie by setting a release date. Harriet Walter joined the cast in February 2020.

The filming began on February 14, 2020, in Dordogne, France, and continued until March 12, 2020, at the medieval castle Berzรฉ-le-Chรขtel (near Macon) in Burgundy, France (300 filmers) Group, including 100 extras)).
The filming was originally scheduled to take place in Ireland from March 23, 2020, to March 30, 2020. The locations of use include Bective Abbey, County Meath, and Cahir Castle, Tipperary County, and Dublin and Wicklow County. Various locations. However, on March 13, 2020, Disney announced that in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions in Europe, the studio had to postpone filming indefinitely due to the concerns of actors and staff. The film was originally scheduled to start limited releases on December 25, 2020, and then be widely released on January 8, 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date has been postponed to October 15, 2021. It will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021.
