Val 2021 is an American documentary film directed and produced by Leo Scott and Ting Poo. It tells the life and career of actor Val Kilmer. The film has its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on July 7, 2021, and will be released in limited release on July 23, 2021, followed by digital streaming by Amazon Studios on Prime Video on August 6 Play.
A documentary centered on the daily life of actor Val Kilmer, which contains footage that has not been seen in 40 years.
Leo Scott first started working as an editor for Harmony Korine’s short film The Lotus Community Workshop, where he encountered Val Kilmer’s archives, dug through 800 hours of footage, and was later featured on the project by Ting Poo. Kilmer has taken this shot over the years depicting his growth, going to school, auditioning, his career, and his family. Previously, these shots had been in the box for many years. Once Kilmer was diagnosed with cancer and started to lose his voice, it made him want to tell his story. The film is told in Kilmer’s own words, through his son Jack Kilmer.
In May 2021, it was announced that Val Kilmer will star in a documentary around his life, produced by Leo Scott and Ting Poo, produced by A24 and Boardwalk Pictures, and released by Amazon Studios in the United States and Latin America.
The film has its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on July 7, 2021. It will be released in theaters on July 23, 2021, for a limited time, and then will be digitally streamed on Prime Video on August 6, 2021.
