Psychonauts 2 is a platform video game developed by Double Fine and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game was announced at the 2015 Game Awards ceremony and is scheduled to be released on Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.

Double Fine and game director Tim Schafer had expressed their hope to make a sequel for Psychonauts, but the funding requirements for the game delayed any serious attempts. After the strong sales of the original game through various channels and the strong demand from fans of the original game, Double Fine sought to obtain some financial capital through $3.3 million in crowdfunding and investment to fund the development of Psychonauts 2. Figure, released at the same time as the game announcement. By the beginning of 2016, the event had raised nearly US$4 million.

Psychonauts 2 will be a third-person platform game with similar gameplay to its predecessor. The player will control Raz, he is a newly graduated Psychonaut with strong mental abilities and can penetrate into the field of vision of others. Players will use “Psi-Powers” (such as mind movement, movement and levitation) and more common platform game elements to explore the mental world of several non-player characters.

After the ruins of the diamond-shaped Ecstasy ends, the game will restart. Raz once assisted Sasha Nein and Milla Vodello to save the boss Psychonaut Truman Zanotto, which was a mission that began at the end of Psychonauts. After Zanotto was rescued, the team returned to Psychonaut headquarters, where Raz discovered that the organization was not just what it looked like. In the absence of Zanotto, the Psychonauts organization was changed by its deputy headquarters, and the direction of psychological research shifted from peacekeeping efforts to more unconventional research including witchcraft.

Tim Schafer, director of the Psychonauts series, said that some of the ideas introduced in Psychonauts, such as Raz’s family, their history, and the curses that continue to affect them, will be further explored in the sequel. Raz will also understand the meaning of the term “girlfriend”.
